The previously-announced live-action drama adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi's 'YuYu Hakusho' manga series has announced on Tuesday, during the Netflix Festival Japan 2021 event, new information for the project setting its premiere date at last. The adaptation will premiere worldwide on Netflix in December 2023.
The live-action project was first announced last 2020 which attracted a lot of attention from the series' fans.
YuYu Hakusho, the Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994. The story centers Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child's life. After a number of tests presented to him by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife Underworld, Yusuke is revived and appointed the title of "Underworld Detective", with which he must investigate various cases involving demons and apparitions in the human world.
A total of 19 volumes have been published. So far, it inspired a TV animation series, an anime film, games, etc, have been produced, and in 2019, a stage play adaptation was performed.
