The official Twitter for the anime adaptation of Negi Haruba's "The Quintessential Quintuplets (Go-Tōbun no Hanayome)" manga series has revealed on Tuesday that the previously-announced anime film project for the franchise is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters in early Summer 2022.
A teaser video unveiling the premiere date was streamed the same day on the official YouTube channel of TBS Animation.
A key visual featuring the characters of the anime wearing their summer suits was also revealed.
Last March 2022, the series was announced to receive both an anime film project and a third season sequel for the TV anime series.
The original manga The Quintessential Quintuplets is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Negi Haruba which was serialized from August 2017 to February 2020 in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
The story follows the daily life of a high school student Futaro Uesugi who is hired as a private tutor for a group of quintuplets, Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba and Itsuki Nakano, who perform poorly academically. At the very beginning of the story, it is indicated Futaro will marry with one of the Nakano quintuplets but the identity of the bride is unknown until near the end of the story.
The series was adapted into a TV anime series with the first season aired from January 10 to March 28, 2019 consisting of 12 episodes. The second season premiered on January 8, 2021 and ended on March 26 on the same year with another 12 episodes. Bibury Animation Studios replaced Tezuka Productions for the animation production of the second season with Kaori as the director replacing Satoshi Kuwabara who directed the first season of the anime. The scripts is written by Keiichirō Ōchi with character designs by Michinosuke Nakamura and Gagakuga. The music is composed and arranged by Natsumi Tabuchi, Hanae Nakamura, and Miki Sakurai.
A third season and an anime film project were announced after the airing of second season's final episode.
