A new TV anime for Takeshi Konomi's classic sports "The Prince of Tennis" will be airing in 2022 titled 'The New Prince of Tennis U-17 World Cup'. This is the first TV anime in almost ten years since "The New Prince of Tennis", the last anime in a TV series format, was broadcasted in Japan in 2012.
A key visual for the new TV anime series was revealed on Sunday.
The story of the series will take place after the events of the original video animation (OVA) series "The New Prince of Tennis OVA vs Genius 10" with individual volumes released between October 29, 2014 and June 26, 2015.
The new TV anime series project is part of the franchise’s 20th Anniversary celebration held today. The 20th promotional video which was also released includes a throwback of the anime projects made since the manga's serialization in 2001.
The anniversary celebration is set for October 10, 2021, the same day as the first broadcast of the original TV anime. Also titled 'Tenipuri 20th Anniversary Event -Future-', the event was held at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo. A live broadcast of the event was also streamed on the same day via streaming service U-NEXT.
