The official Twitter for the TV anime series adaptation of Shu's "The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History's Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and Goes to School with His Descendants (Maō Gakuin no Futekigōsha ~Shijō Saikyō no Maō no Shiso, Tensei Shite Shison-tachi no Gakkō e Kayō)" light novel series has announced during the Kadokawa's Light Novel Expo 2021 held on Saturday that its TV anime adaptation is receiving a second season which will air in split cours. An announcement video together with a key visual was released to celebrate the announcement.
The cast members from the first season are reprising their roles for the sequel and SILVERLINK is also returns to animate the sequel.
The first season of the anime series was aired from July 4 to September 26, 2020 and is animated by animation studio SILVERLINK with the direction of Masafumi Tamura. The series composition is written by Jin Tanaka, characters are designed by Kazuyuki Yamayoshi based from the original illustrations by Yoshinori Shizuma, and music is composed by Keiji Inai. The first season composed of 13 episodes.
The series is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma which was originally serialized as a web novel on the user-generated novel publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou in April 2017. ASCII Media Works has published the series in Japan since March 2018 under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. As of October 2020, it has been collected into 8 volumes.
The novel inspired a manga adaptation with illustrations by Kaya Haruka which was serialized online via Square Enix's Manga UP! website since July 2018 and has been collected in three tankōbon volumes. An English version of the manga is also being published by Square Enix.
