The newest and previously-announced anime film for the hit classic sports manga series franchise "Slam Dunk" has been scheduled to be released in Japan in Fall 2022. A teaser video announcing the Fall 2022 debut of the still-untitled film was revealed on Friday.
The author himself, Takehiko Inoue, is writing and directing the film.

Last January, "Slam Dunk" has been announced to receive a new film adaptation as revealed by its author and artist Takehiko Inoue through a GIF announcement posted on his official Twitter account. The post didn't state any information about the film but its production is credited to animation studio TOEI Animation as written on the project's official website which also opened the same day and describes the film adaptation of the series as an anime film.
The original Japanese sports manga series written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1990 to June 1996, with the chapters collected into 31 tankōbon volumes.
The series was adapted into an TV anime series by TOEI Animation which aired from October 1993 to March 1996 and has been broadcast worldwide. While the manga and TV series were still both running, four film adaptations of the series were produced by TOEI from 1994 to 1995 namely; Slam Dunk the Movie premiered on March 12, 1994, Zenkoku Seiha da! Sakuragi Hanamichi released on July 9, 1994, Shohoku Saidai no Kiki! Moero Sakuragi Hanamichi released on March 4, 1995, and Hoero Basukettoman Tamashii!! Hanamichi to Rukawa no Atsuki Natsu released on June 15, 1995.
