The series stars protagonist Mitsuha Yamano (CV: Rika Nagae), who falls off a cliff and finds herself transported to some sort of medieval European fantasy world. While there, she discovers she has the ability to come and go between Earth and this new world. With this newfound knowledge, she decides to use her ability to save up for her retirement by achieving 80,000 gold coins.

The series originated on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website before being published in print with illustrations by Tōzai by Kodansha beginning in June 2017.
