The Restaurant to Another World is a Japanese light novel series written by Junpei Inuzuka and illustrated by Katsumi Enami which started its serialization as a web novel in the user-generated website Shousetsuka ni Narou on January 4, 2013. As of March 2019, it has been published into five individual volumes by Shufunotomo with the first volume released on February 28, 2015 under their Hero Bunko imprint. Its English publication has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment.
The light novel has been adapted into a manga series with illustrations by Takaaki Kugatsu which began its serialization in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in November 2016 and ended in June 2019. A second manga adaptation with illustrations by Morozawa Yamizawa is slated to be serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shounen Ace magazine on April 26, 2021.
It also inspired a 12-episode TV anime adaptation by Silver Link which aired from July 3 to September 18, 2017. A second season was officially announced on April 23.
The story is set on a restaurant situated in a mundane corner of an undisclosed Tokyo shopping district named Western Restaurant Nekoya (Youshoku no Nekoya) offering a lot of Japanese versions of Western dishes. The establishment is open during usual business hours but closed during holidays and weekends. Secretly, it is also open on Saturdays, as on this particular day it creates doorways to another world inhabited by elves, dragons, animal men and other fantastic creatures, who enter the restaurant and partake of its exotic food, with many of them becoming regular patrons.
