The official Twitter for Nisio Isin and Kinako's "Pretty Boy Detective Club (Bishounen Series)" novel series has revealed on Friday its first promotional video for the upcoming TV anime series adaptation of the series under the same title. The new series will begin broadcasting on April 10, 2021 in Japan on ABC TV / TV Asahi's ANiMAZiNG!!! programming block.
Animation studio Shaft is animating the series with Akiyuki Shindo serving as the series director. The series will feature the character designs for animation by Hiroki Yamamura. Aniplex is producing the series.
The series is based on the Japanese mystery novel series written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Kinako. It has been collected into 11 volumes from October 2015 to December 2019 by Kodansha under their Kodansha Taiga label.
It inspired a manga adaption with illustration by Suzuka Oda and began its serialization in Kodansha's shoujo manga magazine Aria in April 2016, and later was moved to Kodansha's shounen manga magazine Shounen Magazine Edge in October 2018. It was collected in five tankōbon volumes.
The light novel series is described as:
The Bishounen Series follows the Pretty Boy Detective Club, a nonprofit organization located at Yubiwa Private Academy, with the purpose of helping those in need, but only if their requests are deemed as "beautiful" by the team's leader, Manabu Soutouin. The story follows Mayumi Doujima, a girl looking to find the star she once saw ever since she was a child, when she encounters the Pretty Boy Detectives and requests their help for the case.
