'Official HIGE DANdism' performs the opening theme song for 'Tokyo Revengers' TV anime series

The second promotional video (PV) for the TV anime adaptation of Ken Wakui's "Tokyo Revengers" posted by the official YouTube channel of PONYCANYON has featured its opening theme song titled "Cry Baby" performed by Japanese pop band "Official HIGE DANdism (Official髭男dism)". The anime series will begin broadcasting on April 10, 2021 on MBS, TV Tokyo, BS Asahi, AT-X and 6 other stations in Japan.

Official HIGE DANdism is a Japanese pop band formed in Shimane, Japan in 2012 by Satoshi Fujihara (lead vocals, piano), Daisuke Ozasa (lead guitar, backing vocals), Makoto Narazaki (bass, saxophone, backing vocals) and Masaki Matsuura (drums, percussion, backing vocals). The band became widely known for their performance of "Yesterday" that was used as the official soundtrack for the anime film Hello World in 2019, and through their hit single "Pretender" released on the same year. In 2020, they performed the original soundtrack for the animated film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Little Star Wars titled "Universe", and the opening theme titled "Cry Baby" for Tokyo Revengers TV anime series.

The song "Pretender" was awarded as the Song of the Year in the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards Japan and the same award in the 2020 Space Shower Music Awards. The band also received the Best Asian Artist - Japan in the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards and "Best New Artist Video" award in the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards Japan for their single "No Doubt".


And just recently, the band received the Best Artist Award at the recently concluded 2021 Space Shower Music Awards.

 

The TV anime adaptation of Tokyo Revengers manga series is animated by animation studio LIDEN FILMS with Koichi Hatsumi serving as the series director. The scripts is written by Yasuyuki Muto and character designs are being handled by Kenichi Ohnuki and Keiko Ōta. Satoki Iida is serving as the music director with Hiroaki Tsutsumi as the music composer.

Cast includes Yūki Shin as Takemichi Hanagaki, Azumi Waki as Hinata Tachibana, Ryota Ohsaka as Naoto Tachibana, Yuu Hayashi as Manjirō "Mikey" Sano, and Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Ken "Doraken" Ryūgūji.


Official HIGE DANdism performs the opening theme song titled "Cry Baby" while the ending theme song titled "Koko de Iki o Shite (Take a Breathe Here)" is performed by Japanese solo artist 'eill'.


The series is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. It is serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine since March 2017.


A live-action film adaptation was announced in February 2020 and was originally set to open in Japan on October 9, 2020, but in June 2020, the film has been delayed due to the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Kodansha describes the anime as: Takemichi Hanagaki's life is at an all-time low. Just when he thought it couldn't get worse, he finds out that Hinata Tachibana, his ex-girlfriend, was murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang: a group of vicious criminals that has been disturbing society's peace for quite some time.


Wondering where it all went wrong, Takemichi suddenly finds himself travelling through time, ending up 12 years in the past—when he was still in a relationship with Hinata. Realizing he has a chance to save her, Takemichi resolves to infiltrate the Tokyo Manji Gang and climb the ranks in order to rewrite the future and save Hinata from her tragic fate.
