Naoki Urasawa's 'Asadora!' manga wins 'Best Series' award at Lucca Comics & Games 2021

Manga artist Naoki Urasawa's Asadora! was awarded "Best Series" at the Lucca Comics & Games 2021, a manga and game festival held in Italy last Oct. 31, 2021.


The series features the brave heroine Asa Asada and her adventures set in post-war Japan to the present day. Born into a large family in Nagoya, she gets into all sorts of trouble such as being kidnapped and solving mysteries.


Asadora! began serialization in October 2018 on Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits. It currently has five tankobon volumes in Japan with English translations up to volume four on Viz Media.

Lucca Comics & Games is a festival in Italy that began in 1966 and is considered as the prestigious "Oscars of comics" in Italy. This is the fourth time Urasawa has won the award, following "Monster" in 2004, "Pluto" in 2010, and "Billy Bat" in 2012.

About Naoki Urasawa

Naoki Urasawa (浦沢 直樹) is a multi-awarded Japanese manga artist and musician. His first major work was illustrating the action series Pineapple Army (1985–1988), which was written by Kazuya Kudo.


Urasawa rose to prominence with Monster (1994–2001), which won "Best Series" at the Lucca Comics & Games in 2004. In total, he has won the Shogakukan Manga Award three times, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize twice, and the Kodansha Manga Award once. By 2016, his various works had over 126 million copies in circulation.
