Written by: Gabriel Castillo | Published on: June 22, 2021

Ominous opening, interview fails, and Santa Eri — fun and good times spiced up with bits of the coming arc!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

Summary

U.A. decides to initiate the internship program after being urged by the Hero Public Safety Commission probably as a reaction to the Deika City incident. The students of Class 1-A have a special media-related training day with Mt. Lady and R-rated Hero: Midnight. Afterward, they enjoy a Christmas party whilst thinking about which hero agencies would be best.

Sneak Peek

The opening of this episode was loaded with excitement and intrigue. The shot of dust flying from the wreckage of a city was fantastic and it all became wilder as a character was revealed at the center of destruction; Tomura Shigaraki’s brief appearance signaled the coming of a new and thrilling conflict. In addition, the commission pushed U.A.’s faculty to push through with the internship program for students possibly because a powerful threat is at the door. The quick glimpse of the number two hero was also quite telling. Wasn’t Hawks sent to infiltrate the League of Villains? And why was one of the top heroes reported to be missing? Something big and bad is coming and viewers are amped!

Media Madness

Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki were recently interviewed after their heroic display just minutes after receiving provisional licenses. As usual, the explosive delinquent fired back at the interviewer’s questions with his usual brash and filter-free tone while Shoto answered respectfully and sincerely. Unfortunately, but hilariously, the interview only aired Shoto’s answers while Bakugo was cut-out! Soon after, Aizawa-sensei brought in some help — the gorgeous duo of Mt. Lady and R-rated Hero: Midnight — in order to teach the students a thing or two about dealing with media. The sequence was fairly entertaining and a had decent bits of humor mixed in.

Christmas Cheer

In contrast to the ominous beginning of the episode, the latter half was light, fun, and festive! Class 1-A’s dorm had its own little Christmas party filled with food, laughter, and presents. Eri-chan stole the show with her adorable Santa look and holiday enthusiasm (although mismatched at first)! Seeing the students enjoy a good old feast and party was awesome. The quick sequence with all the gifts was especially delightful!

VERDICT

What a Duo

Author's Rating: 8.7/10

This episode was a great mix of chill slice-of-student-life content spiced up with little glimpses of the coming arc. The first few seconds of the episode were enough to whet viewers’ appetites! Apart from the wonderful teasers, the interview training session and holiday party were fairly entertaining thanks to the usual antics of favorite characters and a lovable visit from Eri-chan in a Santa outfit (what a cutie). Seeing the students enjoy life as students was pretty good! It’s a welcome change of pace after all the fighting but this peaceful time is expected to be short-lived.

Where will the students go for their internship program? What happened in Deika City? Were League of Villains involved? What prompted the massive destruction shown at the beginning of the episode? Will Bakugo ever have a decent interview with the media? Find out in the next episode!
