The official Twitter of Motoki Omori, vocalist of Japanese rock band Mrs. GREEN APPLE, announced Sunday his second digital extended play “Midnight” to be released on August 6. They also revealed the EP’s official cover art and a week-long promotion schedule which begins Monday, August 2 at 9PM JST.
Four concept photos as well as three “Midnight Teasers” will be released ahead of the extended play and the title track’s official music video.
Omori debuted earlier this February with the digital EP “French” after his band announced that he will be making his debut as a solo artist that same month.
On July 2020, Mrs. GREEN APPLE released their fifth album, a compilation titled “5” which contains remastered versions of previously released tracks as well as three new songs. It also has the popular anime opening themes for the “Speaking” (“Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V”) and “Inferno” (“Fire Force).
The band then announced on their official Twitter account the “End of Phase 1” and saw each member deactivating their respective accounts on the social media site.
They also published a blog post on their website on the “opening to Phase 2”:
Today, as of July 8, 2020, Mrs. GREEN APPLE announces "the end of Phase 1", and also that the band takes a break for the time being.
That does not mean a negative hiatus but we begin preparations for our new step to the next Phase.
At the same time, Mrs. GREEN APPLE is now independent from the ex-management company.
We launch "Project-MGA" and will start an audition for creators and project crew who will join in our trip of Phase 2 together.
We would like to meet people who have strong passions for making excitement and enthusiasm with Mrs. GREEN APPLE.
Details to be announced soon.
Please look forward to the opening to Phase 2!
Formed in 2015, MRS. GREEN APPLE is currently composed of Omori (vocals, guitar, composer), Hiroto Wakai (leader, guitar), Ayaka Yamanaka (drums), Ryoka Fujisawa (keyboards), and Kiyokazu Takano (bass) who replaced Takumi Matsuo.
A fiery breakout
On July 2019, Mrs. GREEN APPLE released Inferno, the first single off their fourth studio album “Atitude.” It also served as the opening for season one of Fire Force.
Drawing from the anime’s immense popularity and also the song’s catchy rock rhythm, Inferno proved to be somewhat of a “fiery breakout” for the band even as they already had mainstream popularity at the time.
Indeed, the drop before the chorus became a meme in the Fire Force and anime community as some fans inserted the song in various and unfortunate blazing incidents (Warning: Do not try this out for fun).
Fire Force is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. It is currently serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine. David Production produced the anime adaptation which ran for two seasons beginning in July 2019 to December 2020. It has also been licensed by Funimation.
Synopsis from Crunchyroll:
Tokyo is burning, and citizens are mysteriously suffering from spontaneous human combustion all throughout the city! Responsible for snuffing out this inferno is the Fire Force, and Shinra is ready to join their fight. Now, as part of Company 8, he’ll use his devil’s footprints to help keep the city from turning to ash! But his past and a burning secret behind the scenes could set everything ablaze.
