“Ayashimon” is a new series starting on Shueisha’s weekly shonen jump written and illustrated by Yuji Kaku, known for his recently finished work “Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku”. Check out the poster below featuring the two main characters followed by a quick look into the series.

Ayashimon follows the story of Maruo set in Shinjuku’s red-light district with a little supernatural twist. As a young boy, he admired the main protagonists of popular manga and even got himself to train like one. Maruo’s training gave him monstrous strength, even destroying rocks at the age of seven, which did not sit well with other folk. He couldn’t find a place to fit in and was practically an outcast, hungry for purpose.

Maruo runs into Urara, a mysterious girl running from a bunch of underworld thugs. She offers Maruo a drink from the Sakazuki sake cup, which is a ceremony that establishes a relationship between a Yakuza member and the boss. Although reluctant at first, an encounter with the fiendish Ayashimon changes Maruo’s mind. As they team up, Urara shares her ambitious goals of eventually running Shinjuku’s underworld.

The concept sounds intriguing so far and, as a series in Shounen Jump, we can expect some classic shounen moments and a ton of trials for the main characters. If you're a fan of Shounen Jump's titles, then this might be worth checking out. The new title just premiered last Monday, November 15 and will be released weekly!
