The production committee of the first live-action film adaptation of Homura Kawamoto and Tōru Naomura's "Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler" manga has released on Monday its main promotional video (PV) for the upcoming live-action film sequel titled "Kakegurui the Movie 2".
A poster was also released introducing the new shrewd gambler Makuro Shikigami, played by Johnny's West member Ryuusei Fujii.
The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters in May of this year.
The first movie's cast will reprise their roles for the 2nd installment of the film.
The first part of the live-action film premiered in Japan last May 2019.
The series is based on the Japanese manga series written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura. It began serialization in Square Enix's Gangan Joker in March 2014. A prequel spin-off manga, Kakegurui Twin, began serialization in Gangan Joker in September 2015.
It inspired a TV anime series produced by animation studio MAPPA that ran from July to September 2017 in Japan. A 10-episode live-action TV series premiered in Japan last January 2018 and is now available via Netflix. A second season of the TV series premiered in March 2019.
English publisher Yen Press describes the series' story as:
Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you're the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it's not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It's reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she's gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!
