Japanese pop trio NEWS is set to perform the opening theme song for the upcoming sequel to “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon,” the anime’s staff announced Wednesday on Twitter.
The title and release have yet to be revealed. The trio previously performed part one’s second opening theme with “BURN.”
Originally a nine-member group, NEWS is currently composed of Keiichiro Koyama, Takaisa Masuda, and Shigeaki Kato. The group was formed in 2003 by talent manager Johnny Kitagawa under his label Johnny’s Entertainment.
One Ok Rock lead vocalist Takahiro Moriuchi was one of group’s original members until his departure in 2004.
The group has since amassed over 20 number-one singles and 10 number-one albums on the Japan Oricon charts. Their most recent single “Beautiful / CHINCHAUMAKKA / KANARIYA" is their first as a trio.
The first part of the spinoff series is animated by animation studio Sunrise with the direction of Teruo Sato. The series composition is handled by Katsuyuki Sumisawa and characters are designed by Yoshihito Hishinuma based on the original designs by the series' original author and main character designer, Rumiko Takahashi. The music is composed by Kaoru Wada. Almost all the staff came from the original Inuyasha series team. The series was aired from October 3, 2020 to March 20, 2021 in Japan consisting of 24 episodes. During the final episode of the series last March 20, 2020, it was announced that the anime is receiving a sequel titled "Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Chapter 2 (Hanyou no Yasha Hime: Ni no Shou)".
The first Inuyasha anime series produced by Sunrise under the same title "Inuyasha" was released in Japan on Yomiuri TV on October 16, 2000, and ran for 167 episodes until its conclusion on September 13, 2004. It was also broadcast on Nippon Television. Avex collected the episodes in a total of seven series of DVDs volumes distributed in Japan between May 30, 2001 and July 27, 2005.
In 2009's 34th issue of Weekly Shōnen Sunday, published July 22, 2009, it was officially announced that a 26-episode anime adaption of volumes 36 to the end of the manga would be made by the first anime's same cast and crew and would air on Japan's YTV. The series premiered on October 3, 2009 in Japan with the episodes being simulcast via Hulu and Weekly Shōnen Sunday in the United States. In other parts of Asia the episodes were aired the same week on Animax Asia. The anime completed its run on March 29, 2010.
Synopsis:
Several years after the events of the main series, Sesshōmaru's daughter Towa is separated from her younger twin sister Setsuna and gets stranded in the modern era, where she is adopted into Kagome Higurashi's family. 10 years later, she returns to the past and reunites with Setsuna, who became a demon slayer working under Kohaku and does not remember her past. In order to restore Setsuna's memories, both embark on an adventure while accompained by their cousin Moroha, who is the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome.
Part Two is premiered on October 2.
