Gloomy Miyamura? Check! Wild Miyamura? Piercings and tattoos, yes! Badass Miyamura? What?!?!
Disclaimer: Might contain spoilers from the manga! Your call!
Quick Recall!
Two Hori-san?! Hori’s mom was brought into the light. The visuals!
Miyamura ---? Hori agonizes over not knowing Miyamura’s first name as her mother pries on the identity of this “guy” who pays visits to their house. Thanks to Souta’s stories!
More characters! Another visual explosion! Through Sengoku’s requests, Hori has been helping the student council with their tasks. A troublesome happenstance - a file was missing, and all eyes are on Hori! The council members confronted Hori of the matter and demanded an apology over her alleged negligence. Pissed, Miyamura stepped forward and handed the “misplaced document” which was due to Ayasaki’s clumsiness (she bumped into Miyamura the day before, lost her composure and didn’t bother to check all her stuffs before dashing away). Uh-oh, talk about awkward!
Happy birthday, Hori-san! Miyamura gave Hori a gift - a collection of songs he personally liked. Awww!
Manga Spiel! The episode covered chapters 4, 7 and 9 of the manga. While the episode did not fail to deliver the vibes from the manga frames, some “cringe-worthy” scenes (and chapters as well) were left out. Nevertheless, the plot was not thrown off-course. Good riddance!
Author’s Corner: Missed frames = less cringe
Hori’s cousin?! Yuki met “the guy” twice. That guy, Konoha, is Hori’s “cousin”. Who is this guy?
Miyamura sick in bed with colds?! He talks about Hori in his dreams, heard by Tooru to which he inquires of their “relationship”. Oops!
Field trip! Miyamura agonizing over the bath time! No skin exposure for this guy, he’s dying! Another shared moment between Hori and Miyamura! Ohh… (Better read on it to know more. *winks, flips chapter 6*)
EXTRA spoof: Meow-mura! How about a cat Miyamura?
Reassurance and a pat on the head! “Maybe I just need someone to tell me everything’s going to be alright.” - Hori (and her worries)
The proof of friendship! Turns out Tooru has a gift to Hori for her birthday! What could it be? Hurry, read on! Chapter 9!
Despite the exclusion of these scenes that would have fans swoon over the characters, the animation effectively channeled the feels from the manga. With just a right balance between humor and romance, the audience can cheer, laugh and feel butterflies in the stomach while watching. There might have been some more frames that could have spiced up the “love-is-in-the-air” vibe, yet the series has done a pretty good job in catching this ambience with emphasis on the strong, important scenes depicted. It was a good laugh with a decent dose of innocence, awkwardness and cuteness! A wave of nostalgia to good, old high school days…
Random thoughts!
Tooru’s “I’m too heartbroken!” remark when Hori asks him about Miyamura is a comic relief!
Isn’t Remi just too adorable when she burst out crying over her “carelessness”?
Well, Miyamura got audience hooked when he head-butted Sengoku for throwing Hori off the bus. Pretty yet savage!
With the continuous interaction heightened by new characters closing in, Hori and Miyamura are both drawn to the center separated by a thin line. Will they take the first step to cross the line? All eyes on this as the story continues!
