The official Twitter for the TV anime adaptation of 07th Expansion's "Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni)" visual novel series has revealed on Monday that the upcoming TV anime sequel titled "Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu" of the latest anime project of the franchise will begin broadcasting on July 1 with the first two episodes back-to-back on Tokyo MX, BS11 and other local channels in Japan.
The staff and cast of the previous anime season is returning for the sequel. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing the series at animation studio Passione while Naoki Hayashi is handling the series composition. Akio Watanabe is serving as the character designer and music is composed by Kenji Kawai. Streaming platform Funimation will stream the series outside Japan.
The series is based on the Japanese murder mystery doujin soft visual novel series produced by 07th Expansion that comprises the first two entries of the When They Cry franchise. The series focuses on a group of young friends living in the fictional rural village of Hinamizawa and the strange events that occur there in 1983.
