To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film’s release, a themed café will open in Japan: one branch in Nagoya’s well-known Sakae district from July 23 to August 22 and another in Tokyo’s stylish Harajuku from July 22 to September 12. As is expected of themed cafes in Japan, the menu brings the wizarding world to life in vibrant and delicious fashion. All the food and drink are inspired by the Harry Potter franchise including the spinoff series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw? Represent your favorite house as each of the four has its own bento boxed lunch sandwich with a side of soup. The meal goes for JPY 1,800 and an additional JPY 1,000 gets you a house-specific bento box to take home. Check out the Gryffindor box set and the strawberry filled sandwich.

Each House's bento box comes with a unique sandwich and soup pairing.

The menu is incredibly colorful, highly imaginative, and definitely reminiscent of the franchise. One bite and you'll feel like a wizard! From Herbology Class salads to shepherd's pie with the Hogwarts crest, these meals are beyond creative.

The desserts and drinks look even more magical: The Golden Snitch parfait oozes with goodness, Hagrid's 'Happee Birthdae Harry' warms the heart, the Hogwart's Express cafe latte has a puff of wonder, and the vibrant smoothies with colorful toppings to signify each house — everything looks fantastic!

Aside from the delicious delights, the café also offers a plethora of beautifully designed merchandise.

Much like other character cafes in Japan, reserving ahead is required including a JPY 650 per head seating fee which already comes with a souvenir multi-use case. Reservations must be made through their website here. Fill up on the food and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of wizards!

The Harry Potter movies are based on the fantasy novel series created by J.K. Rowling and is a well-known title all around the world since its publishing in 1997. The first installment “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was released in 2001 (20 years ago!) and set the cinematic universe of the wizarding world in motion. Since then, seven other films closed out the original series followed by a variety of theatrical productions, a theme park, and, more recently, the Fantastic Beasts spinoff.
