First look at ‘Star Wars: Visions’: Japanese twist to the Star Wars universe

Anime meets Star Wars in this upcoming anthology series coming to Disney + (Disney Plus). Called “Star Wars: Visions”, the series is a set of 9 animated shorts detailing a different story and theme but are all connected to the greater universe of Star Wars.




Lucasfilms and different Japanese animated studios will collaborate on these new stories that mesh the Star Wars universe with Japanese and East Asian influences. The teaser that was released shows clips, images, and behind the scenes discussions of the creators for the show. Some notable names that will be part of the production are Enyoung Choi, Takashi Okazaki, Takanobu Mizuno, Taku Kimura, Hitoshi Haga, Hiroyuki Imaishi, Kenji Kamiyama, Abel Gongora, Yuki Igarashi, and Masahiko Otsuka. Each will be heading an episode, and each episode will tell a different story of Star Wars.



Different genres, from comedy to period drama, will be seen as well as unique takes to the familiar lore of the world. Some of the stories that will be included will be a period drama about a master and their apprentice against a new enemy, an action short between two twins, a comedy about a battle of the bands, and many more. The show will feature the works of seven Japanese animated studios. The studios include Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio (Twin Engine), Studio Colorido (Twin Engine), Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, Production IG.



The series is set to release on September 22, 2021.
