The official Twitter of Gainax and Tatsunoko Production's Neon Genesis Evangelion has announced on Thursday through a public press release that the January 23 Japanese premiere of the final Evangelion anime film titled "Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" is postponed for the second time due to the state of emergency declared in Japan in response to the increasing number of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) infection across the country.
The film was originally scheduled to premiere on June 27, 2021 but was moved to 2021 due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Studio Khara is animating the film with Hideaki Anno serving as the film director as well as writing the scripts. The film is the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, based on the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion.
