As the title suggests, the special will focus on the expert sailor Ryusui Nanami (CV: Ryōta Suzuki). The story follows the events after the second season from 2021 (Stone Wars). As with the main anime, Dr.STONE: Ryusui will be animated by TMS Entertainment.

As previously announced, Season 3 of the main anime will air in 2023.

Dr. Stone (stylized as Dr.STONE) is a Japanese manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by the South Korean artist Boichi. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2017 to March 2022. The manga is licensed in North America by Viz Media. In 2019, Dr. Stone won the 64th Shogakukan Manga Award for the shōnen category.

The story follows teenage scientific genius Senku Ishigami, who plans to rebuild civilization after humanity was mysteriously petrified for 3,700 years.

An anime television series adaptation by TMS Entertainment aired from July to December 2019. Season 2 of the anime series focused on the "Stone Wars" arc and aired from January to March 2021. Season 3 is set to premiere in 2023.
