Rino Mizuho's manga series "Chocolat no Mahou (The Magic of Chocolate)" has been announced on Saturday to receive a live-action film adaptation scheduled to premiere early Summer of this year. The production committee reveals its key poster and the announcement is posted through its official movie website which has opened earlier today.
NGT48 1st Generation's Maho Yamaguchi will play the role of the main character Aikawa Chocolat in the film. It will be directed by Tomonobu Moriwaki and will be produced by Shinya
Furugun and Kana Otsubo.
It has also been announced that the manga series has exceeded 1 million copies in circulation worldwide.
The film is based on the dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Rino Mizuho and is serialized since 2009 in Shogakukan's shoujo manga magazine Ciao and Ciao DX. As of July 2020, the manga has been published into 20 tankōbon volumes.
The series was previously adapted into an original video animation (OVA) by SynergySP. It consisted of 13 episodes and was released from 2011 to 2013.
The story follows Aikawa Chocolat who owns a store named Chocolat Noir in the middle of a deep forest where she sells chocolate desserts that have mysterious charm and can fulfill dreams when eaten. In return, Chocolat takes away the most important thing for the buyer in return for their granted dreams.
