The official Twitter for Tsubasa Yamaguchi's Blue Period manga has revealed on Wednesday its first key visual and main staff for the upcoming previously announced TV anime series adaptation of the manga titled "Blue Period". The series is slated to begin broadcasting in 2021.
The series is animated by Seven Arcs with Koji Masunari serving as the chief director and Katsuya Asano as the series director. The scripts are written by Reiko Yoshida and characters are designed by Tomoyuki Shimotani. The anime is slated to begin broadcasting in 2021. The cast members are yet to be revealed.
The anime is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi which began its serialization since June 24, 2017 in the August 2017 issue of Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon. As of September 2020, the manga has been collected in 8 tankōbon volumes.
In 2020, the manga won the Grand Prize of Manga Award 2020.
The story follows Yatora Yaguchi, a fairly popular student, who excels in school, but often deals with inner emptiness and frustrations. One day he became fascinated by a painting at his high school's art club so deeply that it inspired him to try his hand at painting. Later he was inspired by a friend Ryuji and subsequently joining the art club, becoming more deeply involved, and attempts to apply for the Tokyo University of the Arts as his choice of college.
