The official Twitter for Tsubasa Yamaguchi's "Blue Period" manga has announced on Tuesday that the series is receiving a TV anime series adaptation and is slated to begin broadcasting in 2021. The creator drew a commemorative illustration revealing the announcement of the adaptation.
The anime is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi which began its serialization since June 24, 2017 in the August 2017 issue of Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon. As of September 2020, the manga has been collected in 8 tankōbon volumes.
In 2020, the manga won the Grand Prize of Manga Award 2020.
The story follows Yatora Yaguchi, a fairly popular student, who excels in school, but often deals with inner emptiness and frustrations. One day he became fascinated by a painting at his high school's art club so deeply that it inspired him to try his hand at painting. Later he was inspired by a friend Ryuji and subsequently joining the art club, becoming more deeply involved, and attempts to apply for the Tokyo University of the Arts as his choice of college.
