The official Twitter for Hajime Isayama's "Attack on Titan" TV anime series has revealed early Monday the new character visual for Armin Arlert of the fourth and final season of the series. Earlier January, Eren Yeager's visual has been disclosed by the production committee.
The new season is the fourth and final installment of the series after its successful run since the first season aired way back in 2013. It will now be produced and animated by MAPPA after obtaining the rights from WIT Studio (Season 1-3). The main staff includes director Yuichiro Hayashi, character designer Tomohiro Kishi, chief animation director Daisuke Niinuma, art director Kazuo Ogura, 3D CG Director Takahiro Uezono, scriptwriter Hiroshi Seko, and music composers Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto. For the final season, former 3DCG Director Shuuhei Yabuta was the only returning staff member from WIT Studio. The series premiered in NHK General TV on December 6 and anime streaming giants Crunchyroll and Funimation is airing the simulcast broadcast outside Asia. Netflix began streaming the series on December 11 and episodes are being released weekly.
A 25-episode first season ran from April to September 2013, followed by a 12-episode second season aired from April to June 2017. A 22-episode third season was run in two parts (cours), with the first 12 episodes airing from July to October 2018 and the last 10 episodes airing from April to July 2019. The 3rd season ended with episode 59.
The series is based on the Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It is set in a world where humanity lives within cities surrounded by enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans; the story follows Eren Yeager, who vows to retake the world after a Titan brings about the destruction of his home town and the death of his mother. Attack on Titan has been serialized in Kodansha's monthly Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine since September 2009 and collected into 32 tankōbon volumes as of September 2020.
Attack on Titan has become a critical and commercial success. As of December 2019, the manga has over 100 million tankōbon copies in print worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
