Of abhorrence and vengeance - Will Eldia finally stand against its oppressors and reclaim the once mighty nation?
Spoilers? You've been warned!
Quick Recall: The War Hammer Titan
Bloodbath! The Attack Titan turned the plaza into a bloody hell as he zeroed in, rampaging the capital which incurred losses and damages. Gruesome!
The War Hammer Titan revealed! Up until now, the whereabouts of the last of the special Titans had been unknown. In a desperate call for a strong counterattack, the War Hammer Titan surfaced. Who shall take the upper hand?
The Ackermans! The fearsome duo made their grand entrance. Mikasa assisted Eren as he engaged the War Hammer Titan. Levi (*gasps*) closed in as the Jaw Titan launched an attempt to bit off the Attack Titan’s nape, a chance to retake the Founding Titan, but to no avail. “Humanity’s strongest soldier” landed a fatal blow, throwing the Jaw Titan off. Nice save there!
Eldia’s reinforcements are here! Finally, the Survey Corps stole the spotlight as they maneuvered their way into enemy land and took down Marley’s soldiers. Eldians, rise!
Awakening! Gabi stood and watched with horror as a guard was shot on the forehead before her eyes. The assailant? Sasha!
Manga Spiel! The episode covered chapters 101 and 102 of the manga. Bridging the animation with the manga panels was not a problem since the scenes depicted were true to the chapters - not to mention the heightened feels and inviting atmosphere, thrusting a pang of emotions to the audience.
Author’s Corner: An episode to behold
Illustration-wise: MAPPA overdid the upgrades! Returning characters were given over-the-top glow-up - an embodiment of seasoning and development in their physique and set-up as Eldia’s hope for restoration. There might have been some downsides and disappointment clamors, still the manga was given life and spoke for itself. Faithfulness intact!
Animation-wise: These may not be the best frames and effects, but the studio has substantially captured the horrid feel of the battlefield and of destruction.
Emotion-wise: A surge of moods and thoughts swept the audience with the delivery of on-point scenes. The screenplay was easy to follow, readily comprehensible and direct-to-the-point, effectively communicating the emotions of the characters. Mikasa’s sadness-flushed face deserves a mention! Eren’s eyes filled with rage and devoid of doubts as he continues the massacre.
Random thoughts: A take on some scenes
Willy’s farewell. The first frame (though not included in the manga) sent clouds of emotions as the head of the Tybur family held his children (for the last time, *sobs*). He knew of his fate and has accepted what has to befall. He was steadfast in his vital role, abandoning all hope for his salvation. It’s now or never! A sacrifice for Marley? Was it called for?
Closing in! Having received major blows, Porco, the Jaw Titan, was cornered by the Eldians to which he called them “devils”. Eldia is Marley’s demon; Marley is Eldia’s demon. Inside or outside the walls, everyone is a “demon”.
Spawns of the “devil” - A label given to the descendants of Ymir, primarily “those inside the walls”, who were considered “threats” to humanity. With Eldia’s counterattack in check, Marley’s worst nightmare and adversary fed the land with fear and annihilation. Who are the real “devils”?
Humanity creates its own demons. People are only good or evil given their nature, their circumstances, their decisions. No good nor evil stands before judgment. To be saved or to be devoured in the fiery pit - only by moving forward will we get to the answers.
Do you stand with Marley against the “devils”? Or do you fight with Eldia to reclaim their honor? Marley meets Eldia! What do you think of this epic episode? All eyes and ears on this!
