The first promotional video has been released for anime film Fafner in the Azure: Behind the Line, scheduled to premiere in Japan on Jan. 20, 2023.
Behind the Line serves as a spin-off to the Fafner parent series, with never-before-seen everyday life scenes that complement anime film Heaven and Earth (2010) and TV anime Exodus (2015). Behind the Line will be animated by Production I.G.
The first PV features main character Kazuki Makabe (CV: Makoto Ishii) saying he only has four years left to live. As a result, Kazuki tries to enjoy his days to the fullest, all while trying not to worry his friends.
Fafner in the Azure (Japanese: 蒼穹のファフナー, Romaji: Sōkyū no Fafunā) is a Japanese mecha anime franchise created by Xebec in collaboration with Starchild Records.
The story focuses on a group of children who pilot the titular Fafners in an escalating war against giant aliens called Festum.
The first TV anime was Dead Aggressor in 2004 which ran for 26 episodes. This was followed by a light novel in 2005, several manga series (2005-2006, 2014-2021), an OVA called Right of Left (2005), the anime film Heaven and Earth (2010), the 26-episode TV anime Exodus (2015), and the four-part anime film series The Beyond (2021).
